The Mutant Tarn is a powerful and deadly boss that is the only way to get Twisted Bow drops from PvM. It can use a wide variety of damaging attacks, and it has a large store of hitpoints and excellent defense. Solo kiling the mutant may be difficult so it is advised to duo him. However, you may be able to solo it depending on gear used.
Players who are soloing Tarn will most likely need a bit of food in order to get the kill.
The only main attack style that should be used is magic. Having maxed or near-maxed gear is highly recommended. Only that setup will do sufficient damage to give you a good chance of getting the kill.
Step 1: Teleport to "Mutant Tarn" under the "Bosses" teleport option
After that, walk through the room with the terror dogs and take the stairs on the right. Inside is Tarn in a small room.

Tarn, despite being so hard, has a relatively simple setup:
- Food (Combo food NEEDED as all of his attacks can out-damage your healing
- Stat boosting potion / Imbued Heart as well as prayer restoration
- Optional but recommended: Anti-poison
- (If not using an autocast staff (i.e. Sanguinesti, Trident)) Rune Pouch with Runes for Fire Surge.
As for prayer, Range is NEEDED as you otherwise will most likely die due to how high of a damage output the boulders have.
Tarn has a variety of attacks, all of which can easily prove deadly if not looked out for:
- A single-target melee attack that does up to 40 damage
- A multi-target range attack that does up to 99+ damage over 3 quick strikes with boulders
- An area-of-effect poison attack that covers the floor with pockets of smoke. Anyone standing in a square where smoke spawns will take a moderate amount of Typeless tick damage.
- Another poison cloud attack, where Tarn shoots 1 cloud onto the tile you stand on, that then follows you 1-2 times over 6 seconds. Running is recommended until it no longer follows you.
Banking between kills
It is advised to bank between every kill as Tarn has a long spawn timer (approximately 2 minutes). The Spawn area (::home) has a healing chest to the left of ::shops, which will heal any damage, BUT will also reset your stats to their original values, and end any timer you might have, both good and bad (antifire, anti-poison, teleblock etc.)
If you have Super Donator, ::hp is heavily recommended to use in between kills.
If you have Extreme Donator, ::bank will render you possible to stay in the room for an unlimited amount of kills, or at least, until you run out of food/potions.
Note: Since Tarn is not an instanced boss, you are able to do kill him with friends. Duoing this boss is definitely significantly faster than trying to solo and can result in more kills per hour.
