Greater Skeletal Hellhounds are level 281 undead beasts. They are really weak to crush weapons and magic attacks. The hounds will all automatically attack you once you enter the lair, so it's recommended to pray melee right away.

The Skeletal Hellhound is the single best method of getting Superior Dragon Bones in the game, especially for iron men, as this can make getting 99 prayer take as little as 3-5 hours if wearing a ring of wealth (i).

One fun fact about the skeletal hellhounds is that they do count towards a hellhounds slayer task.

Getting There

To get to the Skeletal Hellhounds, locate the Purple Wizard and go under "Bosses" followed by "Skeletal Hellhounds".

After that, go inside the gate and you'll be at the Hounds.

Mechanics

The Hellhounds have no mechanics besides just trying to attack you with melee. Be aware that they hit hard and often though, so watch your prayer thoroughly.

The inventory for the Skeletal Hellhounds is quite simple:

- A lot of Prayer restoration as well as stat boosting potions
- Rune Pouch (If using mage, for blood spells), otherwise a spec weapon can be used if using melee
- Optional: Noted sup bones, super restore (4), magic logs and law, blood and death runes as well as dragon darts (not p,p+ or p++) already in inventory for easier management when picking stuff up.

As for prayer, you pray melee. You can also pray your combat style's boost (piety, rigour, augury), but it's not recommended if being there for long or if you're AFK'ing a lot. Another thing that could work here is the "Preserve" prayer, which makes stats go down 50% slower after being boosted. The scroll for the prayer can be bought at the Leagues Tutor for 35.000 Blood money.
